    Calico Creek - Hole 16

    Calico Creek - Hole 16

Hole sixteen is a short finesse par three that you'll want to birdie. It plays just 138' from the combined red / green tee box. You'll need to avoid trees the entire way, though you'll have a pretty generous left-to-right line to get close. You may even have a tight right-to-left line in there somewhere, but you'll have to avoid lots of scruff. If you happened to stay left and go long, a deep slope awaits, with some pretty gnarly rough down there. You'll be working hard
    Calico Creek - Hole 15

    Calico Creek - Hole 15

An interesting hole where you will be teeing from the edge of the woods, throwing a drive across the meadow and hopefully have your drive dip into a protected little glade for a birdie look. From the red tees, you'll have 279' shot, with a distinct left to right line. The hole features a double mandatory. Your shot must pass between two marked trees, with the right tree more of a factor. Miss the mando, and you'll go to the drop zone, and have to bend a 60' putt to save par
    Calico Creek Hole 14

    Calico Creek Hole 14

After spending lots of times in the woods since the first hole, hole thirteen (hole eight at the moment) is a transition hole that starts with a tunnel shot through the woods and takes huge right turn into the meadow. From the red tee, you'll need about 175' of carry straight through the woods, then a huge turn to the right for another 100 feet to the basket. For a right handed player, you'll need to decide on a big anny, or maybe throw that forehand. For a lefty, take some
    Calico Creek Hole 13

    Calico Creek Hole 13

This an interesting hole, slightly downhill, a right-to-left fairway protected by some guardian trees along the way. It finishes to a hanging basket. From the red tees, it's a blind 269' toss to the basket. You'll have to thread it through a couple of particularly menacing early trees, then hope your hyzer follows the line of the fairway toward the basket. Lefties will need to either control an anny through this tough line, or break out a forehand. From the green tee, pla
    Calico Creek Hole 7

    Calico Creek Hole 7

Hole seven is the final in a sequence of 4 short holes that climb up along then away from Calico Creek. It is the shortest, at least from the red tee, and has the least elevation change, a rise of five feet or so. What makes this one tricky is two leaning beech trees that jut in to the fairway. You have some wide lines to the basket, but with the trees tilted at a nearly 45 degree angle, you'll need to control your disc in both azimuth and altitude. A single teepad serves
    Calico Creek - Hole 6

    Calico Creek - Hole 6

Open and one of the shortest par threes around. Automatic birdie, right? Not so fast. You'll have to deal with some elevation, make sure you take that in to account. From the red tee, you'll have an uphill toss of 219'. With the basket tucked into the right side, it will prevent you from throwing that favorite right hand backhand hyzer you may be so fond of. You'll need to put a putter or mid maybe with a bit of anny, or give a forehand a go. I've even seen some big
    Calico Creek - Hole 5

    Calico Creek - Hole 5

Hole five is the famous "Old Man in the Tree" hole. It's a very short uphill pitch and should be an easy birdie opportunity... if you can avoid the trees, especially the Old Man. It's just 175' from the red tee and only a 110' uphill toss from the green tee. You'll have a few lines to choose from. The left-to-right line is inviting, though you'll have a couple of late trees that you'll need to miss to park that drive. The right-to-left line is blocked from the red tee, but
    Calico Creek - Hole 3

    Calico Creek - Hole 3

Hole three is the most difficult test on the layout. From the red tee, you'll need to carry 283' and navigate a narrow pinch point about 100' from the basket. A short pine, a maple tree, and a couple of small birch trees jut into the fairway from the right side, ready to catch any disk slightly off line. With Calico Creek along the left side of the fairway, this means you'll have to throw a fairly straight shot... no big hyzers here. The hole plays slightly down hill. The
    Calico Creek - Hole Two

    Calico Creek - Hole Two

More than once I've heard Calico Creek dismissed as "just a pitch and putt...". That makes me wonder if that person ever got passed the first hole. Hole two plays a twisty 241 feet from the red tees, with guardian trees coming in to play pretty quickly. Sure, if you can thread the needle, you can birdie this hole, but it's going to take a near perfect shot. With an 80' advantage, this is much easier from the green tees. It takes out some of those "early trees" and has a p
    Calico Creek - Hole One

    Calico Creek - Hole One

I'll admit it, I'm not an objective reviewer when it comes to Calico Creek. I LOVE the place. For a variety of reasons, I have a personal connection to this course. Calico Creek from the green tees gives beginners an exposure to classic a New England woods course without being too overwhelming. From day one, a newbie has a chance to make some pars and maybe even have a look at a birdie. Elevation, shaping shots through the woods, facing risk/reward options and putting on
