The Meadows by Any Other Name?

December 22, 2019

Help us come up with a new name that better reflects the classic New England flavor of this course.

The Meadows is a gem of of course...   a great place for beginners to learn the game, a fun round for young and old from the green tees, and a great place for a quick round on the red tees for experienced players.

With all par three's, you can get in a quick round after work or use the place as an ace run warm-up for Spoonwood Ridge.  All the holes may be reachable, but you will still have to shape shots and deal with changing elevations to score well.

With the course expanding to a full eighteen over the winter, we are faced with a bit of a dilemma.   The six new holes are all in the woods.  That makes the course have only two "open meadows" holes, three transition holes, and 13 woods holes.   Is it still appropriate to call it "The Meadows"?

To often I hear players whose skill levels would be better matched on The Meadows say they want to play the "real" course bypass The Meadows for Spoonwood Ridge.

We'd like to come up with a new name for the course that reflects though it's not the beast of it's big brother, The Meadows holds its own as a fun and interesting track for all skill levels and is also a classic test of New England style disc golf.

So far some of the names proposed so far are:

  • Calico Creek   (like Spoonwood, Calico bush is an alternate name for Mountain Laurel)

  • Jackson's Run

  • Goat's Way

  • Hacker's Heaven

  • Mellow Thunder
